Fourth of July Spicy White Sangria

Here’s a spicy twist on white sangria. A subtle heat from a macerated habanero makes this cocktail irresistibly delicious! Start a day in advance and remove the habanero before serving! This is easiest if you tie it up in a little bundle of cheesecloth.

Spicy White Sangria
Makes 1 pitcher

1 750-ml bottle dry, unoaked white wine like Gruner Veltliner
3 T brandy
3 T lemon flavored vodka
1 habanero, seeded and quartered
1 lime, thinly sliced
2 plums, diced
2 peaches, diced
1 cup blueberries
1/2 cup small strawberries, halved
1 cup mint leaves, chiffonade
1 Cup sparkling water

Combine the wine, booze, chile pepper, lime, plums and peaches in a large pitcher. Cover & refrigerate overnight. Just before serving, fish out the habanero pieces and discard. Add the blueberries, strawberries, mint and sparkling water. Serve with a ladle into clear glasses.
